A newer design plan has been approved for the North Shaolin Monastery. It's bigger and better than ever. The new reconstruction completion date is estimated to be in 2025.
There have been Shaolin Monks at the monastery overseeing the reconstruction for about eight years. Visitors may stay and learn Kung Fu from the monks there now. The photo above is the latest design.

Note: There are a couple of places in China advertising themselves as "North Shaolin Monastery." The North Shaolin Monastery on Panshan, Jixian, Tianjin is the one that is recognized as an official sub-Temple of the original Shaolin Monastery on Songshan in Henan Province.
